We are happy to report that our first child is on its way. According to the doctor, this little bun has been in the oven for about 3 months now.

We told Jan's family earlier this week. She didn't want to make a big deal about telling them since this would be the 8th grandchild for her parents.
As for me, it's my parent's first, so I wanted to surprise them. Here's how it was suppose to go down on Saturday. The plan was to tell them during a lunch that the family was already having that day. So, it was perfect since we were already getting together for a different occasion.
We had a little kink in our plan when Saturday actually rolled around. I came home from my usual Saturday morning basketball session to find Jan resting in bed. She had just come home from her workout at the gym. A couple hours later she asked me to take her to the emergency room. She was feeling dizzy & her stomach was hurting. We rushed over to Mission hospital. We check in and wait an hour to see a nurse. She asks a bunch of questions and has us go back to the waiting room. As we sit there for a couple hours, Jan starts to feel better. But we figured we should have an ultrasound done to be safe.
During this time, my parents arrive at the hospital (still not knowing that she's knocked up). I tell them not to worry and that she should be fine. We were just having some tests done to play it safe. We convince them to go ahead and meet us at our house. Right when they are about to leave, the orderly comes with a wheelchair to pick Jan up. He tells her that he needs to take her to the ultrasound department. Great, he just gave away the news to my parents... so we thought.
After running a blood test and the ultrasound, everything seemed okay and Jan was feeling fine. Of course, they never could figure out what made her feel dizzy or have stomach pains. Anyway, we headed back to the house to meet my parents.
We come home to tell them that everything is just fine. They still had no idea that she was pregnant. So, we continued with our original plan. We gave them two gift boxes. We said they were from my sister in law who couldn't make it to my dad's birthday party a few weeks ago. We said that there was a gift box for my mom as well. We told her that it must be a matching item to whatever my dad received. So, they begin to open the boxes to find a pair of picture frames. My mom just says how nice it is and puts it to the side. My dad takes a few looks at it and finally says "Is this one of those whatcha-ma-call-its?" Then my mom picks hers up again and takes a closer look. "It's an ultrasound!" she exclaims. Then they both go crazy and hug Jan. We explain that we wanted to surprise them at the restaurant. We also told them that we thought they already figured it out when the orderly mentioned an ultrasound. They said they just figured that they wanted to check her abdomen since she was complaining of stomach pains. They were so excited. It was great to see them so happy. I tried video taping it with my compact camera. Apparently, if the clip is too long, the file gets corrupted. Eh, what can you do. I did manage to recover a clip of the phone call we made to my brother. He was working since the early morning, so he sounds half awake during this call made around 7pm.
We also made a round of calls to a bunch of relatives and friends. The response was overwhelming. Everyone is so excited for us. We even got a message from our niece Meg (she is currently the youngest niece of the family) who was out visiting New York City.
We'd like to thank everyone for all of their well wishes and will see all of you soon at the baby shower... whenever that may be.
We'll keep you posted on how things are going. We should know the sex during next week's doctor's appointment.
Stay Tuned.
